TEN ASSOCIATES PROMOTED AT COOLEY Cooley Godward has elected 10 associates to partner, effective Jan. 1, bringing the firm’s partnership ranks to 155. The new partner class is the same size as last year’s class, and like last year is split equally between litigation and business lawyers. It includes two women and eight men and represents the 475-attorney firm’s five offices. Three associates were elevated in Palo Alto, including litigator Brian Ankenbrandt, a 1996 graduate of Hastings College of the Law; litigator Grant Fondo, who received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1993; and business attorney Marya Postner, a 1996 graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law. In San Francisco, business attorney Kirk Dizon, a 1995 graduate of Loyola Law School, joined the partnership ranks. Outside the Bay Area two associates were promoted in San Diego, three in Reston, Va. and one in Broomfield, Colo. The San Diego partners are business attorney Matthew Browne, a 1995 graduate of Harvard Law School, and litigator Michelle Doolin, a 1995 graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law. In Reston the new partners are litigator Robert Cahill, a 1995 graduate of the University of Richmond School of Law; business attorney Aaron Velli, who received his law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1993; and litigator Peter Willsey, a 1993 graduate of the University of Richmond School of Law. In Colorado, Brent Fassett, a 1994 graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, was elevated. — Brenda Sandburg PILLSBURY PROMOTES 10 LAWYERS TO PARTNER Pillsbury Winthrop announced the promotion of 10 attorneys to its partnership ranks Monday. The number of newly anointed partners is the same as the firm has promoted for the past two years. While half of this year’s new partner class practice in Pillsbury’s California offices, only one new partner is in a Bay Area office. Five of the new partners are in the firm’s New York and Northern Virginia offices. The attorneys, who become partners Jan. 1, are spread among the firm’s corporate, intellectual property, litigation, real estate, insolvency and labor and employment law groups. “This is an excellent group of new partners whose contributions will serve to enhance our firm in many ways,” said Executive Vice Chair David Snyder in a statement. The sole new San Francisco partner is Alice Hayashi, in the firm’s labor and employment law group. A Boalt Hall School of Law graduate, Hayashi represents employers in federal, state and administrative proceedings, and has litigated matters at the appellate level. The other new California partners practice in the firm’s Sacramento, Los Angeles, Century City and Orange County offices. — Alexei Oreskovic
