SAN FRANCISCO Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass has added Marlena Byrne as an associate in the real estate practice. Previously with Shute, Mihaly & Weinberger, Byrne practices land use law, with a broad background in environmental law. She is a 2000 graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law. Jenny Wald and Cindy Perusse have joined Hersh Family Law Practice. Wald returns to the firm after a year working as child custody attorney in the Families, Children & Courts division of the Judicial Council. Perusse has practiced at several family law firms in Minneapolis and the Bay Area. She received her J.D. from Hamline University School of Law in 1994. Retired Judge Michael Ballachey has joined JAMS after serving as a mediator, arbitrator and discovery referee with ADR Services and the American Arbitration Association since 1999. The judge was appointed to the Alameda County Superior Court in 1979 where he served until retiring in 1999. SOUTH BAY Jay Russell has joined the Redwood City firm of Howard Rome Martin & Ridley as senior counsel. Formerly with Jackson & Wallace in San Francisco, Russell’s practice includes business and insurance defense litigation and business and real estate transactions. He is a 1985 graduate of Santa Clara University School of Law. EAST BAY Harvard Law School has named East Bay Community Law Center Executive Director Jeff Selbin as a Wasserstein Public Interest Advising Fellow for 2003-04. The program recognizes exemplary lawyers who have distinguished themselves in public interest work and who can counsel students about public service. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Health care attorney Linda Hunt Mullany has joined Gordon & Rees’ San Diego office. Mullany comes to the firm from Lucas, Mullany, Boyer & Haverkamp, a firm she co-founded in 1999. She earned her J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law. Land use attorney and LAPD Police Commissioner Silvia Saucedo has joined Allen Matkins Leck Gamble & Mallory’s Los Angeles office. Saucedo, formerly with Nossaman Guthner Knox & Elliott, received her J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law in 1998. Rachel Sagan has been promoted to general counsel for Freedom Communications Inc. of Irvine. Sagan has served as acting general counsel for the past year. Previously she was an associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. The San Diego County Superior Court has selected Darlene Dornan as its new director of legal services upon the retirement of Pamela Estabrook. She has worked with the court since 1995. Dornan is a 1995 graduate of California Western School of Law. Education law firm Miller Brown & Dannis has relocated its Palos Verdes office to larger offices in Long Beach and hired a new associate, Deborah Ungar, who practices in the area of special education and student issues. The firm also recently promoted Enrique Vassallo, a senior litigator, to special counsel.
