ABA Environmental Law Award Edith Brown Weiss received the American Bar Association’s 2003 award for distinguished achievement in environmental law and policy at the association’s annual meeting in San Francisco on Aug. 11. Weiss is the Francis Cabell Brown Professor of International Law at Georgetown University Law Center. ABA Regulation of Securities Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson partner Dixie Johnson has been named chairwoman of the Committee on Federal Regulation of Securities of the American Bar Association, Section of Business Law. Johnson is the first woman to head the 2,000-member section; she is slotted to serve a three-year term. The committee works with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the New York Stock Exchange, and other groups regarding proposed rules and legal and policy issues. D.C. Employment Justice Center Adam Walker has been chosen to receive an award for Volunteer Attorney of the Year from the District of Columbia Employment Justice Center, which provides free legal counseling to low-wage workers. Walker is a senior associate with D.C.’s Miller & Chevalier. Nat’l Defense Industry Ass’n Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson partner James McCullough was elected vice chairman of the procurement division of the National Defense Industry Association. In addition, McCullough has been appointed to the advisory board of The Government Contractor, a weekly periodical addressing federal procurement matters. Patent and Trademark Office Maury Tepper of Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice has been named to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Trademark Public Advisory Committee. The 10-member committee is appointed by the secretary of commerce.
