Oakland Mayor and former California Gov. Jerry Brown confirmed Wednesday he will seek the 2006 Democratic nomination for state attorney general. The move will mark Brown's first run for statewide office in nearly two decades and will likely turn the usually sedate AG's race into one watched around the country. Brown, 65, announced his intentions in a conference call with reporters Wednesday that was hosted by the office of Gov. Gray Davis.
