AKIN GUMP Donald Gross has joined Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld as senior counsel in the international practice group. Gross had been international adviser to the Kim & Chang law firm in Seoul, Korea, and an adjunct professor at the Yonsei University Graduate School of International Studies. Gross, 51, is a graduate of University of Chicago Law School. LAW OFFICES OF JOHN R. BUNKER John Bunker has opened his own firm in the District, focusing on civil litigation. The 39-year-old Bunker had been an associate in the D.C. office of King & Spalding, where he worked out of the antitrust and litigation department. He is a graduate of St. John’s Law School. KELLEY DRYE & WARREN John Heitmann has been elected partner at Kelley Drye & Warren. Prior to the promotion, Heitmann had been telecommunications associate in the firm’s D.C. office. Heitmann, 35, is a graduate of New York University School of Law. MILLER & CHEVALIER Former IRS Associate Chief Counsel James Atkinson, 38, has joined Miller & Chevalier’s tax practice group as counsel. Since leaving the Internal Revenue Service earlier this year, Atkinson was director of graduate tax and securities programs at Georgetown University Law Center. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois Law School. MORGAN, LEWIS & BOCKIUS Four D.C.-based associates at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius have been elected partners. Anne Brafford, 32, litigates employment discrimination issues. She is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Law. Timothy Matthews, 41, represents parties before the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. He is a graduate of George Washington University National Law Center. Anita Polott, 32, focuses on intellectual property litigation and is a graduate of American University Washington College of Law. Tara Reinhart, 38, concentrates on criminal antitrust investigations and antitrust litigation. She is a graduate of Catholic University Columbus School of Law. SONNENSCHEIN T. Reed Stephens has joined the D.C. office of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal as a partner in the health care practice group. Stephens had been with the U.S. Department of Justice, where he litigated or supervised many of the department’s biggest health care fraud cases. Stephens, 36, is a graduate of Stanford Law School. U.S. COURT OF FEDERAL CLAIMS Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton partner Charles Lettow, 62, has been confirmed as a judge on the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. Lettow has practiced with the firm for 30 years and has argued numerous cases before the Supreme Court and U.S. courts of appeals. He received his LL.B. from Stanford Law School. WILLIAMS MULLEN Bizhan Beiramee, 29, has joined Williams Mullen’s Tysons Corner, Va., office as an associate in the technology, intellectual property, and entertainment section. Before practicing law, he served as a process engineer for a technology startup. He is a graduate of George Washington University National Law Center. WILMER, CUTLER & PICKERING Richard Jackson, 40, has joined Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering’s securities group as counsel, with a focus on investment management issues. Previously, Jackson was of counsel at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.
