PILLSBURY ACQUIRES 6 LAWYERS IN HOUSTON Pillsbury Winthrop beefed up its recently launched Houston office with the addition of a six-attorney team from New York’s Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman & Dicker. David Weinstein and David Tippetts have both joined Pillsbury Winthrop as partners, along with four associates and a five-person support team. The move is designed to add litigation depth to Pillsbury Winthrop’s 18-attorney Houston office, which opened in January. Weinstein and Tippetts have more than 100 jury cases between them and a combined book of business worth several million dollars, Weinstein said. “Our clients are Fortune 100 manufacturers and energy companies that have got work all over the globe, and Pillsbury Winthrop is renown for being tailor-made for that kind of business enterprise,” Weinstein said. A Texas Tech University School of Law graduate, Weinstein represents multinational corporations in commercial and tort litigation. His practice focuses on the energy and automotive industries. Tippetts earned his J.D. from Southern Methodist University School of Law and has substantial experience in product liability, complex commercial and catastrophic injury litigation. The two litigators practiced together at a Houston litigation boutique that was acquired by Wilson, Elser in 1997. Also joining Pillsbury Winthrop’s Houston office as associates are Jack Little, Deborah Clinebell, Erich Schenk and Brent Monteleone. — Alexei Oreskovic SHEPPARD ADDS S.F. PARTNER, 2 ASSOCIATES Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton has grown its San Francisco office with the addition of partner Charles Donovan and a pair of associates. Donovan joins Sheppard, Mullin’s finance and bankruptcy group after a three-year stint at Philadelphia’s Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis. Prior to that he practiced at his own firm, Walsh Donovan. A Cornell Law School graduate, Donovan has focused on international finance work for 25 years. A large share of his practice relates to ocean shipping and maritime law. “He brings a new dimension to our finance practice,” Richard Brunette Jr., Sheppard, Mullin’s finance and bankruptcy group chair, said in a statement. Donovan’s move is the latest attorney transfer between Sheppard and Schnader. In February, Sheppard, Mullin launched a Washington, D.C., outpost with five laterals from Schnader’s D.C. office. Joining Donovan at Sheppard, Mullin’s San Francisco office are associates Brian Blackman and Amy Norris. “That was a big attraction,” Donovan said of moving to Sheppard, Mullin. “It largely enabled me to unplug my practice from where it was and plug it in here with the same team.” – Alexei Oreskovic
