EMOTIONAL DISTRESS a police officer who claimed that another officer threatened to kill him was awarded $202,000 by a federal jury on June 4. Robert Stack, a University of Massachusetts police officer, was dating Hartford, Conn., officer Lourdes Perez. Stack claimed that after their relationship ended, Perez, who was married, told him she would kill him if he interfered with her life. Stack reported the incident to Hartford’s internal affairs department, whose director covered it up and told a local paper that Stack was a “scorned, jealous lover.” Stack sued the department, claiming emotional distress. Stack v. City of Hartford, No. 01-CV-260 (D. Conn.). PLAINTIFF’S ATTORNEYS: James S. Brewer and Erin I. O’Neil, Brewer & O’Neil, West Hartford, Conn. DEFENSE ATTORNEYS: William J.
