CORCORAN COLLEGE The Corcoran College of Art and Design has awarded Silverstein and Mullens managing partner and chairman Ronald Abramson an honorary doctor of fine arts for his 18 years as a trustee of the institution. Abramson is the former chairman of the National Museum of American Art, a trustee of the Folger Shakespeare Library, one of the founding members of the Renwick Alliance, and a trustee of the Washington Project for the Arts. Abramson also served as chairman of the Corcoran for eight years. Silverstein and Mullens is a division of Pittsburgh-based Buchanan Ingersoll. D.C. BAR The Young Lawyers Section of the D.C. Bar announced its 2003-04 officers and board of directors. The officers are Annamaria Steward, clerk for D.C. Court of Appeals Chief Judge Annice Wagner, as chair; Reed Smith associate Andrew Hurst as chair-elect; Julian Hammar of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission as secretary; Allyson Mitchell of the National Labor Relations Board as treasurer; and Sebrina McClendon of the D.C. Public Service Commission as treasurer-elect. The newly elected board members are Zoraya De La Cruz of the Federal Maritime Commission; Christina Giallourakis of the Department of Homeland Security; Kirkpatrick & Lockhart associate Alicia Lewis; Squire, Sanders & Dempsey associate Kara Mather;and Dominic Vorv of the Vorv Law Firm. MINORITY CORPORATE COUNSEL The Minority Corporate Counsel Association presented the D.C. office of Arnold & Porter with a 2003 Thomas L. Sager Award for the firm’s efforts to improve the recruitment, retention, and promotion of minority lawyers. This is the fifth consecutive year that the MCCA has honored the firm. The award was announced at the association’s Diversity Dinner for the Mid-Atlantic Region, held June 25 in the District. WILEY BRANTON AWARDS At its annual Wiley Branton Awards luncheon on June 3, the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs honored Patricia Wald, the former chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, with the 2003 Wiley Branton Award. After her retirement in 1999, Wald was a judge with the International Criminal Tribunal and is currently a chair of the Open Society Institute’s Criminal Justice Initiative.
