Alan M. Gnessin of Stevens & Lee discussed “The Seven Deadly Sins of Managed Care Contracting” at a seminar sponsored by Parente Randolph and held on May 21 and June 6 in Harrisburg and on May 28 in Williamsport. Gnessin focuses his practice on managed health care issues and represents institutional, entrepreneurial and provider-driven organizations including HMOs, PPOs, single-service networks, disease management companies and PHOs, as well as hospitals and physician groups. Blank Rome has announced that John D. Shire, an associate in the health law group, will be participating as a faculty member in a Lorman Education Services seminar titled HIPAA Compliance: Understanding the Security and Privacy Regulations in Pennsylvania. The seminar is in Wyomissing, Pa., on June 25. Shire concentrates his practice in health care transactions, health care regulatory matters, health care operations, health information compliance and technology contracts. Wolf Block Schorr & Solis-Cohen has announced that Jonathan Segal, Jonathan Wetchler and David Gollin spoke at a conference for the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry titled Complying With Employment Law Regulations, held June 11 in the Harrisburg-Hershey Holiday Inn of Grantville. Segal, a partner in the firm’s employment services practice group, will give two presentations. The first is titled “The Legal Guts of Supervisory Training.” The second will cover an array of human resources topics as chosen by the conference’s registrants. Segal focuses his practice on strategic planning, traditional labor issues, and employers’ counseling, training and policy development. Wetchler, a partner in the firm’s employment services practice group, will also present twice. His first presentation at the conference will review management of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family Medical Leave Act and workers’ compensation. His second presentation will cover business protection via confidentiality agreements, non-solicitations, covenants vs. competition and related matters. Wetchler counsels clients concerning all aspects of employment law. Gollin, an associate in the employment services practice group, will present an “Employment Law Update” covering major court decisions and other changes impacting businesses’ employment policies. His practice is concentrated in the defense of various employment-related claims before state and federal agencies and in state and federal courts. Blank Rome has announced that Michael D. Shepard, a partner in the corporate litigation practice group, was a panelist and Mary T. Vidas, a partner in the matrimonial practice group, produced the plenary session tax-related program at the American Bar Association family law section spring CLE conference on May 2 in Las Vegas. The panel’s topic was titled “The Changing Tides in Valuation Practices and Property Distribution.” Shepard’s practice focuses on white-collar criminal defense, asset forfeiture, Bank Secrecy Act and USA Patriot Act compliance, and banking and corporate litigation. Vidas concentrated her practice in the field of domestic relations but has handled numerous other general litigation matters in both federal and state courts.
