Andrew B. Steinberg has been appointed chief counsel of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta has announced. Steinberg will serve as the top legal advisor to the FAA administrator and will also oversee staffing in Washington and 11 field offices. Kmart Corp. announced that Harold W. Lueken will join the Troy, Mich.-based retailer as senior vice president and general counsel. He will be responsible for its legal and human resources departments. He served previously with Banc of America Securities and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co. Suzanne Schulze Taylor has become vice president and general counsel of Cleveland-based SourceOne Healthcare Technologies Inc., a major distributor of medical imaging equipment, supplies and services. Taylor has been asked to create, oversee and manage the company’s legal department. ABM Industries Inc. of San Francisco has appointed Linda S. Auwers, formerly of Houston’s Compaq Computer Corp., as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. With more than 62,000 employees, ABM provides facility services for commercial, industrial and institutional entities throughout North America. SEMCO Energy Inc., a natural gas conglomerate headquartered in Farmington Hills, Mich., has chosen Mark T. Prendeville to be vice president and corporate general counsel. He had been general counsel for the company’s gas distribution division. SEMCO distributes natural gas to more than 367,000 customers throughout the United States. Youbet.com Inc., a Woodland Hills, Calif.-based online event and wagering company, has named Victor J. Gallo as its general counsel. Youbet provides 24-hour, online access to most major domestic horse races. Gallo was corporate counsel with Las Vegas’ Konami Gaming and started his career as an intellectual property attorney with the Sierra Patent Group of Lake Tahoe, Nev. Wade H. Nichols, former Revlon Inc. chief administrative officer, has been named general counsel and executive vice president, corporate development, for Senetek PLC, an anti-aging health care technologies company. Based in Napa, Calif., Nichols had served on the firm’s board of directors and as an independent consultant. SpeechWorks International Inc., a Boston-based source of speech technologies, strategies and services, has selected Bob Kellegrew as vice president and general counsel. He comes aboard from a similar position with American Tower Corp., an infrastructure provider for the wireless, Internet and broadcasting fields.
