When we launched the Legal Times Metro section in January, we set out to expand the scope of our coverage of local practice. This week, we add to that mission a closer look at specific areas of law dominated by local attorneys. On Page 35, you’ll find our first Metro Practice Focus. The topic: trusts and estates. As you may know, the Practice Focus feature is not new to Legal Times. We’ve long covered substantive law issues in a series of special sections on such topics as antitrust and intellectual property law. Now we’re adding to that series a new Metro focus. Next month’s Metro, to be published on May 26, will bring a focus on personal injury law. On June 23, we’ll look at family law, and on July 28 immigration law. The goal remains to create a newspaper of greater breadth. Legal Times Metro will continue to offer profiles of firms, first-person accounts by small firm partners and solo practitioners, the monthly “Players” column of short news items, and more. The lead article this month, by Metro news editor Joel Chineson, looks at the ethics rules and business considerations that solos must face when preparing to close out — or, as Chineson details — sell their practices. The trusts and estates section was edited by Elizabeth Engdahl, who is also preparing the additional Practice Focus sections coming up over the next few months.
