CONTRACTS in a case where a furniture-manufacturing business began to falter months after escrow closed on the purchase price, a California jury on April 3 awarded a defense verdict on the complaint, and $1.82 million on a cross-complaint. James Yang and Fred Wu sued David and Sandra Reynolds for breach of warranty and fraud after the business they purchased from the Reynoldses began to perform poorly. The Reynoldses cross-complained that Yang and Wu used the alleged warranties as an excuse to avoid paying their obligations under the contracts and that they destroyed the business after close of escrow.
