BRYAN CAVE Joel Bonderhas joined Bryan Cave as counsel in the firm’s D.C. office. Bonder came to Bryan Cave from the Apartment Investment and Management Co. (AIMCO), a U.S. apartment real estate investment trust, where he was executive vice president and general counsel. Bonder focuses his practice on real estate transactions and related finance, corporate, partnership, and Housing and Urban Development regulatory matters. Bonder, 54, received his law degree from Washington University School of Law. COLLIER SHANNON SCOTT Ivan Wassermanhas joined D.C.’s Collier Shannon Scott as a partner. Wasserman, 36, had been a partner in the D.C. office of Venable. Wasserman focuses his practice on food and drug regulatory issues, representing clients on matters involving the manufacturing, labeling, advertising, and safety of foods, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, and consumer products. He earned his law degree from the George Washington University Law School. COVINGTON & BURLING Covington & Burling’s D.C. office has brought on David Engvallas special counsel on securities, corporate finance, and corporate transactional matters. Before joining Covington, Engvall was senior vice president, general counsel, and secretary for the Motient Corp. and corporate secretary and legal counsel for Mobile Satellite Ventures. Engvall, 38, is a graduate of Harvard Law School. FEDERAL JUDICIAL CENTER U.S. District Judge Barbara Jacobs Rothsteinhas been selected by the board of the Federal Judicial Center to serve as the ninth director of the Federal Judicial Center. Created by Congress in 1967, the center provides orientation and continuing education to federal judges and support staff of the federal courts and performs research and analysis of federal court operations. Rothstein, 63, was appointed a U.S. district judge for the Western District of Washington in 1980 and served as chief judge from 1987 to 1994. She is a graduate of Harvard Law School. FOLEY HOAG Foley Hoag’s D.C. office has brought on Gillian Fentonas counsel. Fenton, 40, will practice in the business department’s life sciences and patent groups, concentrating primarily on licensing, intellectual property patents, and related corporate matters. Prior to joining the firm, Fenton was associate general counsel for intellectual property at Biogen Inc. Fenton holds a law degree from Suffolk University Law School. WILMER, CUTLER & PICKERING Bradford Berry,former deputy chief of the Federal Communications Commission’s Enforcement Bureau, and most recently a partner in the D.C. office of Nixon Peabody, has joined the D.C. office of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering as partner. Berry joins the firm’s communications and electronic commerce practice.
