PRO BONO PARTNER AWARD CorporateProBono.Org, a national outreach project designed to encourage in-house lawyers to participate in pro bono service, presented its first-ever Pro Bono Partner Award to Abbott Laboratories, Baker & McKenzie,and the Midwest Immigrant & Human Rights Center.The award recognizes the accomplishments of pro bono partnerships between law firms, in-house corporate legal departments, and public interest groups. The partnership of Baker & McKenzie, Abbott Laboratories, and the MIHRC helps Chicago-area immigrants become naturalized U.S. citizens. U.S. LAW FIRM GROUP Gene Godley,a partner in the D.C. office of Bracewell & Patterson, has been elected president of the U.S. Law Firm Group. The USLFG allows attorneys and staff of participating law firms to discuss a broad range of issues with peers from outside their respective markets. It currently comprises 19 firms representing over 5,000 attorneys in 88 cities. Godley has been with Bracewell & Patterson since 1980, and heads the firm’s government relations and strategy section. WOMEN IN MILITARY SERVICE The Women in Military Service for America National Foundation recently announced that Morgan, Lewis & Bockiushas been elevated to “Founder’s Status” in recognition of the firm’s $1 million-plus contribution in pro bono legal services over the past 15 years. The firm’s legal work for the foundation includes obtaining charitable 501(c) 3 status from the Internal Revenue Service and negotiating the legalities of fund raising.
