EX-BROBECK PARTNERS STILL FINDING HOMES Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison partners continued to land at new homes this week. Four litigation partners, seven associates and 12 staffers from Brobeck’s San Diego office joined Pillsbury Winthrop. They include business litigation partner Daniel Lamb Jr. and intellectual property litigators Alexandra Mahaney, Jeffrey Guise and Vicki Norton. Meanwhile, Brobeck litigator Luther Orton moved to Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich. Orton, who spent his 31-year career at Brobeck, will continue to serve on the firm’s liquidation committee. The committee was formed after Brobeck management announced Jan. 30 that the firm was disbanding. Among other partners, Daniel Hansen, who practiced corporate and securities law at Brobeck’s East Palo Alto office, has joined Carr & Ferrell, a Silicon Valley IP and corporate firm. And state and local tax lawyers Roburt Waldow and Roy Crawford III have joined Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe, Waldow as a partner and Crawford as special counsel. Heller previously hired five corporate partners from Brobeck’s San Diego office. — Brenda Sandburg PILLSBURY LAYS OFF SOME N.Y. STAFFERS Pillsbury Winthrop is laying off 25 staffers in its New York office, said firm spokeswoman Crystal Rockwood. Eighteen of the layoffs are office administrators. They are being replaced with people from Pitney Bowes, with whom the firm will be outsourcing most of its mail and copy work from now on. Seven others are scattered throughout the firm’s other departments, including the office’s library and finance groups. Rockwood said Pillsbury gave the employees 30 days’ notice and that some of the staffers will have the opportunity to interview with Pitney Bowes. “We’re also bringing in a group to teach interviewing skills, and they are getting a very generous severance package,” Rockwood said. — Jason Dearen
