The ContendersOne product’s death is another one’s opportunity. LawPack’s demise has left a hole that case management vendors are eager to fill. A number of companies want to grab the software’s deep-pocketed client base. (We don’t include cost because it varies widely according to the type of features chosen and the difficulty of installation.) Here’s a look at what’s out there:Company Product Features Bridgeway Software Inc. eCounsel Available in server- and Web-based forms; it ties in with various e-billing vendors. Corprasoft Inc. Legal Desktop -Outside counsel can log in from the Internet; it delivers e-mail notifications of important events, and automatically generates reports about the status of different matters. Two former LawPack clients, The Boeing Company and The Williams Companies, Inc., made the transition to Legal Desktop (before Hummingbird’s announcement that LawPack would be discontinued). Elite Information Group, Inc. Law Manager -Web-based version offered; Elite has three different deals for LawPack users, depending on how quickly they want the new product, how much information they want to convert, and how much they want to pay up-front. Mitratech, Inc. TeamConnect -Web-based version available; built-in functions generate summaries and reports. Mitratech is offering a standing discount on the software to former LawPack users; four companies have already switched, including AT&T Broadband. ProLaw (West Group) ProLaw -Desktop “portal” with time-entry models and document generation. ProLaw offers an all-or-nothing deal: A legal department cannot simply buy the case management features and leave out others. RealLegal, Inc. Practice Manager It offers case and document management, collaboration, time tracking and billing, and contact management; client-server or Web-hosted platforms are available.
