MOFO NAMES NEW HEAD OF LITIGATION Morrison & Foerster has named Lori Schechter head of the firm’s 420-lawyer litigation department. Schechter succeeds James Bennett to the post for a three-year term. “She is one of the stars of the next generation at Morrison and has the respect of her colleagues for that,” said MoFo Chairman Keith Wetmore. He added that Schechter has been “understudying for the role for the last couple of years” as she assisted Bennett with administrative aspects of the job. Schechter’s practice focuses on class action and other complex litigation in unfair competition, antitrust, advertising and Internet privacy. One of her most notable cases was successfully representing DoubleClick Inc. in class actions that claimed the company’s collection of personal information over the Internet violates privacy statutes. A New York federal judge dismissed the federal suits, and following an appeal all the federal and state class actions settled. Among other cases, Schechter successfully represented pharmaceutical wholesaler Bergen Brunswig Corp., one of several plaintiffs in an antitrust suit brought by retail pharmacists who claimed they were charged higher prices for pharmaceuticals than were hospitals and HMOs. “My goal is to fortify our position as one of the premier litigation firms, expanding our market share in different geographic regions” and looking for opportunities to hire lateral attorneys, Schechter said. Schechter obtained her law degree from Yale Law School in 1987. Following a clerkship with a Massachusetts federal judge, Mark Wolf, she joined MoFo in 1988 and became a partner in 1995. — Brenda Sandburg LATERAL PARTNER JOINS LUCE, FORWARD John “Clint” Callan Jr. has joined the San Francisco office of Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps as a partner. Formerly the head of Tobin & Tobin’s real estate group, Callan, 47, is a transactional real estate attorney. At Tobin, Callan’s clients included the Archdiocese of San Franciso, University of San Francisco and the Mark Pringle Co. “Clint’s broad transactional experience as well as his entitlement work with early phase development clients really enhances Luce’s ability to offer clients a full-service real estate practice for this office,” said Cathy Croshaw, managing partner of Luce, Forward’s San Francisco office. Prior to joining Tobin, Callan clerked for San Francisco Superior Court Judge Ira Brown Jr. He earned his J.D. from University of San Francisco School of Law in 1982. “Joining Luce now gives me the opportunity to narrow the focus of my own practice while offering my clients a full range of services under one roof,” said Callan. — Jason Dearen NEW PARTNER NAMED AT BAKER & MCKENZIE Baker & McKenzie has elevated Andrew Crousore, an associate in the firm’s Palo Alto office, to partner. A corporate tax attorney, Crousore obtained his law degree in 1994 from Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law. Before joining Baker in 1998 he was a member of the Internal Revenue Service district counsel’s office. The 3,225-lawyer Baker has 626 partners in 64 offices around the world. — Brenda Sandburg
