Gov. Gray Davis on Thursday announced the appointment of six judges to the Los Angeles County Superior Court, and filled a presiding justice position on the Second District Court of Appeal. Dennis Perluss, 54, was named presiding justice of the L.A.-based appellate court’s Division Seven, replacing Justice Mildred Lillie, who died in October. Perluss has been on the court since October 2001, after serving a couple of years on the L.A. County bench. From 1975 to 1999, Perluss was with the firms of Hufstedler & Kaus and Morrison & Foerster, litigating securities, antitrust and other complex business and finance disputes. A graduate of Harvard Law School, Perluss also has served as a trustee of the L.A. County Bar Association, a visiting professor at UCLA Law School and as deputy general counsel to the Christopher Commission, which investigated the L.A. police department after the Rodney King beating in 1991. L.A. County’s six new trial court judges are Los Angeles County Superior Court Commissioners Robert Schnider, 57, of Sherman Oaks, and David Sotelo, 48, of L.A.; Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorneys James Dabney, 46, and Craig Karlan, 36, both of L.A.; Assistant Los Angeles County Counsel Kevin Brazile, 45, of L.A.; and Michael Vicencia, 38, an associate in Long Beach’s Prindle, Decker & Amaro.
