San Francisco Superior Court Commissioner Abby Abinanti presidies over the detention calendar at the Youth Guidance Center. She often has to deal with pre-teens whose families have turned their backs on them -- an extremely difficult job. She must consider punishment with an eye at how best to keep a youngster from turning into a habitual criminal. Ultimately, she has one goal: to help the kids who come before her.
