Georgia State University’s transformative deal to buy the 68-acre Turner Field site from the city of Atlanta in a partnership with Carter & Associates and other private developers took a lot of lawyering.

Kerry Heyward, the university attorney for GSU, said she started working on the project three years ago, when the Atlanta Braves announced they were leaving for Cobb County. “I feel like I birthed and raised a toddler in this deal,” she said.
