Shawn Bratton (John Disney/Daily Report)
Gov. Nathan Deal has elevated a part-time magistrate to the Gwinnett County State Court bench, his office announced Wednesday.
Shawn Bratton will fill the vacancy created by Deal’s appointment of Judge Randy Rich to the Superior Court bench last May.
In addition to his role as magistrate, Bratton is a senior associate at Mahaffey Pickens Tucker in Lawrenceville. He earned his law degree from Georgia State University and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 2003.
Deal selected Bratton from the Judicial Nominating Commission’s short list of five candidates, which also included Deputy Legislative Counsel H. Jeff Lanier Sr., Magistrate Laura Tate, Sugar Hill Chief Municipal Court Judge Margaret Washburn and Senior Assistant County Attorney Tuwanda Williams.
The JNC submitted its short list to the governor in July after interviewing 18 applicants.
