The Georgia attorney general and a private lawyer are asking the state Supreme Court to reconsider its ruling that prohibits public defenders within the same circuit from representing co-defendants, arguing it would place large law firms in jeopardy.

"The Court’s Opinion does not distinguish between public defenders working in the same judicial circuit and private law firms. As a consequence, the conflicts discussion and analysis employed by the Court governs all Georgia lawyers—whether in a public defender’s office or a private law firm," the joint motion for reconsideration states. "This is not just a public defender issue."
