A woman who was thrown in jail over Christmas weekend for “willfully” ignoring a court order in a matrimonial proceeding cannot bring a malpractice action against her divorce attorney, a New York state appeals court has ruled.

A unanimous panel of the Appellate Division, 1st Department, held that Ellen Minkow intentionally disobeyed a directive to hand over two custodial accounts to her husband’s attorney so the money could be placed in escrow or the accounts could be liquidated.
