About five months ago, Latham & Watkins partner Jerry Peters was visiting with Mary Rotunno, senior counsel at Catholic Healthcare West chatting about a pro bono project she was engaged in. Peters, who works in San Francisco, advises nonprofit hospitals in Latham’s health care group. Their conversation gave birth to a rare kind of partnership between a law firm and a client. At the start of August, Latham & Watkins and St. Mary’s Medical Center launched a medical-legal clinic to serve poor residents in San Francisco.
