R. Allen Stanford really, really wants out of federal custody, but U.S. District Judge Nancy Atlas on Wednesday turned down his latest request.

On Tuesday, Stanford asked Atlas, a judge in the Southern District of Texas, to release him to the custody of U.S. marshals on a daily basis to go to his defense attorney’s office to help prepare for a hearing on Aug. 24 in his insurance coverage suit. In that suit, Atlas will decide if the insurance companies holding the Stanford Financial Group directors-and-officers policies should provide coverage to Stanford and three other SFG executives.
