When Michael Barclay told a Berkeley, Calif., professor in 1974 that he was going to work as an engineer for Intel in “Silicon Valley,” the professor asked “Where’s that?”

Barclay, who over the past 30 years has become a fixture in Silicon Valley as one of the early high-tech patent litigators, announced Thursday that he’s retiring from Palo Alto, Calif.’s Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.
