The Federal Election Commission and nonprofit Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington have come to the defense of the government's criminal campaign contributions case against attorney Pierce O'Donnell in briefs submitted to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The commission's brief, filed Wednesday, called a trial judge's ruling throwing out most of the case "an absurd result" that "contradicts over thirty years of Commission and judicial interpretations."
