Last month, 270 Georgia lawyers and legal staff filed for jobless benefits, a slight drop from the 279 lawyers and staff who filed in July.

Unemployment claims by lawyers continued to increase at a faster rate than for staff in August. The 71 lawyers who filed for jobless benefits last month represent an 82 percent increase over the figure from August 2008. (See chart: Lawyer jobless claims) That compares to 199 unemployment claims by legal staff — a 4 percent decrease over the previous year.
