Florida's Miami-Dade Chief Circuit Judge Joel Brown was relieved when he got the final budget numbers from the county this week. He lost $1.6 million but was able to save some key positions he feared might face the ax as county commissioners struggled to fill a budget hole of over $400 million. In the end, county commissioners found enough to cover traffic magistrates, interpreters, mediators and the staff of a domestic violence fatality review panel. Brown is still waiting to hear about salary reductions.
