Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and four leading firms from India and South Africa have landed roles in negotiations that could bring about India’s largest-ever M&A deal. Bharti Airtel and MTN Group are getting closer to announcing a long-awaited transaction creating the world’s largest international telecom provider.

The Am Law Daily began tracking the proposed deal back in May when talks between New Delhi-based Bharti and Johannesburg-based MTN started heating up over a shareholder swap that would precede a merger worth an estimated $23 billion.
