While the World Trade Center twin towers collapsed above on Sept. 11, 2001, Justin S. Anand was trapped underground in a subway train until he and other passengers were rescued by New York firefighters. At the time, Anand was an associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton. The experience was pivotal for Anand, reawakening his drive to work in public service. At 38, Anand is now deputy chief of the economic crime and cybercrime division of the U.S. Attorney's Office in Georgia's Northern District in Atlanta.

At the time, Anand was an associate at the Wall Street firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and worked at the firm’s Liberty Plaza offices within a stone’s throw of the World Trade Center.
