The company behind the Onewheel recalled the electric skateboards amid pressure from federal regulators and a mounting number of lawsuits, with 135 filed so far.
Ten months ago, Future Motion Inc. resisted recalling the Onewheel, even after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission cautioned consumers to stop using them because people have been thrown off the boards, causing serious injuries. But on Friday, the commission and Future Motion jointly announced the recall of the boards, citing dozens of riders with injuries and four deaths between 2019 and 2021.
