The First District Appellate Court of Illinois held that a man who was permanently injured after attending a party at an Airbnb property can’t be compelled to arbitration, according to Airbnb’s arbitration agreement, as he hadn’t been the person who rented the property.

According to the Sept. 22 opinion, Andrew Peterson, whose leg was amputated below the knee after falling at an Airbnb property, wasn’t obligated to arbitrate his suit against the company, as his friend was the one who had rented the property.
