In 2023, Tom Girardi, now 85, was charged in both Los Angeles and Chicago with stealing at least $18 million from clients of his Los Angeles law firm, Girardi Keese, over the past decade. Others have been indicted.
On Aug. 6, trial began in downtown Los Angeles against Girardi, who faces four counts of wire fraud for stealing $15 million from four clients.
