Four Iowa judges have been recently appointed by Gov. Kim Reynolds, the Iowa State Bar Association announced last week.

They include:

  • Katie Ranes, of Waukee, Iowa, as district associate probate judge in Judicial Election District 5C. She fills the vacancy by the retirement of District Associate Probate Judge Craig Block. Ranes currently serves as a magistrate for the district and she earned her law degree from Drake University Law School.
  • Charles Sinnard, of Urbandale, Iowa, as district judge in Judicial Election District 5A following the retirement of Judge Martha Mertz. Sinnard serves as the Dallas County attorney and graduated from Drake University Law School.
  • Kathryn Austin, of Eldora, Iowa, will be filling the vacancy of Judicial Election District 2B upon the retirement of Judge Kim Riley. Austin serves as an assistant county attorney for Marshall County. She received her law degree from Michigan State University College of Law.
  • Elizabeth Batey, of Greene, Iowa, as district associate judge in Judicial Election District 2A. A vacancy was created by the addition of four new district associate judge position authorized by the legislature. She currently serves as a magistrate for Butler County and practices with the Vickers Law Office. She obtained her juris doctorate from Drake University School of Law.
