It was a convenient excuse in almost every law firm results announcement this year – the Coronavirus disruption was largely to blame for a disappointing set of figures.

But don’t be fooled. Obviously the virus lockdown affected only the final few months of the financial year and the uncomfortable truth is that growth rates have been falling for a few years now. There are deeper issues going on.
