The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California has closed its doors to the public and delayed all civil and criminal jury trials until further notice, according to a clerk’s notice issued Thursday night.

Clerk Kiry Gray wrote in the notice that the operational changes are in response to “the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in the District.” As of Thursday, Los Angeles County reported 201,372 coronavirus cases, which is about five times more than any other California county, according to data from the state’s website.
