The University of South Dakota has renamed its law school in honor of local attorney David Knudson, after receiving a $12.5 million donation from a prominent businessman.

The gift establishing the University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law is from T. Denny Sanford, the founder of First Premier Bank and an active philanthropist who has pledged to give away his entire fortune during his lifetime. Knudson has represented Sanford for decades and is now senior vice president at United National Corp.—a banking services firm where Sanford is the chief executive officer.
