On July 21, 2021, New Jersey Transit engineer  Scott Lupia discovered the air conditioning in his assigned locomotive was not functioning.

Senior Train Master Sue Walker measured the temperature in the locomotive’s cab as 114 degrees. Maintenance personnel could not repair the A/C unit, first reported inoperable six weeks earlier.
