“I am a former magic circle corporate associate who was made redundant last winter. I have now two job offers that are completely different: (1) an in-house position at a major bank, and (2) an associate role in a local law firm (business law) with a good but very regional reputation.

“This is not only a choice of career, this is also a choice of lifestyle: if I choose the bank, I will stay in the City, while if I pick the law firm, I would have to relocate. “Working at the law firm will let me learn the actual practice of law (as opposed to the way it’s practised in major corporate firms), which may be interesting, with the opportunity to go solo or to become partner soon. However, I would have to take a big pay cut on my magic circle salary. Finally, the bank position would be highly specialised (derivatives etc). Any advice?”
