Leeds firm Lupton Fawcett is to acquire the entire commercial and private client business of local rival Fox Hayes.

The deal, agreed in principle, will see Lupton Fawcett taking on 27 fee earners from Fox Hayes – including 10 partners – as well as 11 support staff in the new year.

The acquisition will take the number of fee earners at Lupton Fawcett to 124, with more than 200 staff in total. Fox Hayes, meanwhile, will retain its volume conveyancing business.

Lupton Fawcett managing director Kevin Emsley said of the agreement: “This acquisition brings with it a team of first class lawyers and support staff who not only add depth to our existing skills base but also bring new areas of expertise in areas such as sports, media and entertainment law. It also brings a first class client base.”

Fox Hayes managing partner Phllip Drazen, who will be moving to Lupton Fawcett as part of the deal, added: “We believe that Lupton Fawcett has a culture, model, infrastructure and brand that will provide a natural fit for the skills, client base and sector expertise of the people who are joining.

“Fox Hayes’ traditional legal business and the volume conveyancing business have increasingly different demands of systems, technology and brand. This move allows each part of the business to thrive in separate environments.”
