In a bold move, Allen & Overy (A&O) has become one of the first law firms in Europe to outsource its critical IT infrastructure. The magic circle firm has signed a five and a half year contract worth £5.5m with SAVVIS, a leading global IT service provider for large enterprises. SAVVIS will provide managed hosting and network infrastructure for UK operations, including a centralised document management system, secure data transfers, file sharing, accounting and email.

Dave Burwell, IT director of A&O, said deciding factors included security and quality: “Any big building in the centre of London is potentially at risk, and a data centre outside of London is less prone in the event of a terrorist attack.”
