White & Case has advised the Kingdom of Bahrain on the issue of the state’s second GSM mobile telecoms licence, a deal that is expected to open up the Middle East mobile market to huge external investment.

Bahrain, acting through the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), held a beauty parade of 10 international telecoms consortia for the licence, shunning the auction system that has been favoured by most other countries.
