This month Legal Director runs its first Board Report canvassing the views of UK business leaders on their perceptions of in-house and external advisers.

Among those questioned, it is clear that in-house lawyers have won the battle to prove their value on an operational level. On every key performance indicator corporate counsel are rated higher than law firms by the businesses they advise. But what emerges from the research is that, despite the high performance levels, lawyers are still not perceived to be a key part of the board level decision making process.
