UK judge Mr Justice Laddie has become one of the first European legal figures to go against a ruling from the European Court of Justice (ECJ) – effectively finding a judgment from Europe’s highest court void.

In a hearing – Arsenal Football Club v Matthew Reed – last December, Laddie ruled the ECJ had exceeded its jurisdiction by attempting to reach a finding on the facts of the dispute and the European Union (EU) member state judge was not bound by its conclusion.
