America’s top legal centres are shedding hundreds of legal jobs each month, according to research published in the US.

Data from the New York Department of Labor shows that in the New York City area, where most commercial lawyers in the state are based, the number of legal jobs dropped by 2.3% from 81,900 in December 2001 to 80,000 in January this year.
