At the time none of the firms in the so-called ‘Club of Eight’ – Clifford Chance, Freshfields, Linklaters, Allen & Overy (A&O), Slaughter and May, Lovells, Norton Rose and Herbert Smith – would confirm the existence of anything so formal.
