Shearman & Sterling last week raided US rivals Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and White & Case as the top US firm hired three leading tax partners in Frankfurt and New York.

The move, which came in the same week as Shearmans boosted its City practice with the appointment of Allen & Overy tax partner Michael McGowan, saw Shearmans hire the German and US tax heads of Clearys and White & Case.
