Linklaters is facing the possibility of a seven-figure claim for damages by former client Northern & Shell after the magic circle firm issued a writ for non-payment of a legal bill estimated at £1m.

The development is the latest in a series of wrangles centring on Linklaters’ representation of Northern & Shell in its £125m acquisition of Express Newspapers from United Business Media.
