The market downturn in Asia has forced many international firms to cut back on their operations in the region, especially in Greater China. In the past year, Latham & Watkins, Perkins Coie, Proskauer Rose, and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld have all shuttered offices in mainland China.

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe has closed its Taipei office and is winding down its operations in Shanghai, joining a growing number of U.S. firms that have been scaling back their offerings in Asia.
“These moves reflect a rebalancing of our Asia Pacific platform, including the launch of our Singapore office in 2021, to align with client demand,” an Orrick spokesperson told Law.com International.
